Not all "call in gay" on Wednesday...

We understand why. Many gay people have jobs to care about and the economy is really in bad shape. Although that would be the gayest thing to do -- to not participate in business and the economy for a day to show how much we matter in this world.

Organizers of Wednesday’s “call in gay” event across the United States say not all homosexuals in the work force took the day off. Reasons not to show up ranged from not wanting to take a chance during an economic downturn to not wanting to reveal a sexual orientation to unsympathetic superiors. A gay teacher told the San Francisco Chronicle she would put in her eight hours and then attend a rally for the cause in the evening. The grassroots job action was a protest against the passage of a same-sex marriage ban in California and is meant to illustrate how mainstream and important homosexuals are in the workforce. The effort, which is also known as “Day Without a Gay,” also coincides with International Human Rights Day.
