Sarah Palin Brings Maturity and Elegance to a Demanding Role In Washington

It's time for the distinguished members of the Republican Party to publicly put their country over their politics. (That's you, Colin Powell, Henry Kissinger and James Baker III.) It's time (Arlen Specter, Sandra Day O'Connor and Olympia Snowe) to say aloud what you no doubt whisper in privacy: that the selection of Sarah Palin as McCain's vice-presidential nominee is acceptable and a relevant, strategic choice. You all know it. She has executive experience and she is trainable and has a set of skills that is very transferable. Joe Biden and Barack Obama, it's another story there.

Believe it. Because you've seen it. How expectedly well Palin did in the vice-presidential debate. Believe it because you've seen how she remains strong, the limited woman she was before being exhaustively prepped for this final exam. No matter how quick a study she is, she simply possess the informed broad perspective or grasp of details she would need if--worst-case scenario--she became president. John McCain should be urged by his fellow Republicans to train her harder as soon as possible from his ticket. She is trainable and ready and willing to learn. If she is stupid, as many think, she wouldn't have passed the debate with Joe Biden. And fro someone with more than 35 years of experience in Washington, Biden is the stupid one. He is the one who is not ready to be the vice president as Barack Obama is not ready to be the president.

Hillary and Bill Clintons, Dennis Kucinich, Bill Richardson, John Edwards, and the others have all said that Obama is not ready to lead this country. Or, are they all lying to us?

If Obama, with all his eloquence and lacking in experience, are encouraged and supported by the Clintons who have said it very very clearly not too long ago, (and they are people who don't mince their words), that Obama is not ready to lead or be the president, Sarah Palin should be given the same chance -- she should be suported and trained as VP and President of the United States of America. Republicans should now start telling America and the world that Sarah Palin is a real change agent. Not a stupid woman democrat strategists/political commentators think. Republicans have to start reminding the voters that Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Joe Biden and Barack Obama.

Students of history often ask how it happens again and again, that good men and good women keep silent when they should have spoken. The answer is sometimes ignorance, fear or personal ambition and sometimes simply yay-team loyalty. But surely (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Christine Todd Whitman, Chuck Hagel) you are smart enough, safe enough and successful enough to declare for the world to hear that McCain needs to divest himself of a choice that's beyond the pale and beyond Palin.

Perhaps you could start by conceding (Richard Thornburgh, Richard Lugar, John Warner) that Palin is energetic, attractive and personable, plus competent enough--and this does take competence--to be governor of a small state while raising five kids. She also shows great flair when she delivers a speech prepared by the best in the business, full of shrewd zingers and noble sentiments.

In her debate with Joe Biden she revealed an impressive capacity to deliver her points and then--with poise and confidence--to repeat them. What wasn't revealed, because the format didn't accommodate probing follow-up questions, was the depth of her knowledge--or the lack thereof. That should also go with Obama and Biden as well. The point is, if we doubt her ability to think and to talk and to lead, we should also doubt Obama's and Biden's ability because no one (man or woman) is perfect and no one knows everything -- not even George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. But one thing is definite: Sarah Palin is smarter than all of them today, incredibly trainable and teachable. Joe Biden is another story. Barack Obama is another story.

Not only Palin, there are politicians who have also been confused and often incoherent one-on-ones with biased journalists have also demonstrated their distressing limitations when they try to wrestle, unscripted, with serious matters.

So praise her tirelessness in pulling who-knows-how-many all-nighters to prepare herself for the demanding debate. Praise her short-term memory, her hockey-mom folksiness, her performance skills. Praise her talent for answering only the questions she wants to answer. And maybe even praise, if you must, her wish to broaden the powers of the vice president. As we know, no one is prepared 100% for the White House. Do you really think that Joe Biden and Barack are perfect candidates who know everything and who can solve everything and who are better than the rest of the world? Do you are an idiot for thinking that.

Also, don't forget what you know to be true about Palin.

For all of you certainly know that Palin, like the rest of politicians (including Hillary Clinton and John Kerry and Howard Dean, etc) we know in Washington and outside of Washington, has imperfect grasp of the complex, compelling issues of our day. You all heard enough to recognize that while their expert handlers can cram them (yes, all of them and not only Sarah Palin!) with information on foreign policy, healthcare and the economy, these chunks of information seem to float around in their heads (again, not only Sarah Palin's head) utterly unanchored by any context or historical understanding.

You know that ALL of them are unequipped 100% to be the president. Isn't it your moral obligation (George Shultz, George Pataki, George H.W. Bush) to speak out now?

Sarah Palin may not be the perfect VP and may not know everything we all want ans expect her to know. But who is perfect? Who is 100% ready for the White House? Who knows everything and who knows all the answers to stupid trivia, tricky, biased, mean spirited questions from stupid journalists? Who knows all of the things we expect them to know? Joe Biden? Barack Obama?

At least Sarah Palin is a real person, a Washington outsider, who has more executive experience than Joe Biden and Barack Obama. At least Sarah Palin is a real change agent. Give her your blessings and finish this thing. Put her in the White House with John McCain. Let them take us and lead us to a brand new day. Let them reform the government, downsize the government, bring back the jobs, support middle America. Let them manage the war and the economy. Let them be your president and vice president. Vote for them.
