Why Obama is desperate to attack Sarah Palin

**For the record, Sarah Palin has tripled the funding for special needs children. Blogger admitted today that he made it all up. Many other bloggers are still trying to portray her as an extreme -- a specific case of media bias against her.

It isn’t just Democratic officials who are fixated on Palin. Media outlets on the left – from Talking Points Memo to Huffington Post – are loaded with hard-hitting stories about Palin. McCain often seems like he’s playing second fiddle.

But there has to be a good reason for Barack Obama to use "lipstick" to attack Sarah Palin today. He had to be very desperate and had weighed his options to go down that road, or, he had to be very angry and jealous at her success. When Sarah was saying the difference between a pit pull and a hockey, she was saying hockey moms are just as tough as pit bulls. We all know that. She did not say that hockey moms are like pit bulls. Obama should have asked his running mate, Joe Biden, to do the dirty job for him (but then again Biden is not good enough to do that) and not attack Sarah one on one. He should have concentrated on McCain (but he is too weak to do that either). Obama cannot afford to say the wrong thing again that is not an issue of the day. Obama accused the people in Pennsylvania of clinging to their guns when times get rough. Remember that? It lowers him. It cheapens his words. For more than a year now he has been talking profoundly and eloquently, promising changes to the people -- from sea to shining sea, promising to return the jobs to the people. Now he is attacking a mom who is wearing a liptstick. But that is not the issue. The issue is: Onama goes down a cheap road as Sarah rides the waves of change. It is a serious issue facing the Democratic party right now. Obama has to remember one thing: people do have reservations about him and not just about Sarah Palin.

Barack Obama and his Democratic allies are intensifying their attacks on Sarah Palin because she is their most serious threat that came out from nowhere, shaking their campaign and threatening their chance in November. All this is happening as Sarah's sustained and surprising central role in this race is upending Obama’s strategy and often overshadowing McCain.

Democratic Congressman Russ Carnahan on Tuesday – introducing Joe Biden at a campaign event – ripped into Palin’s record and punctuated it with this snarky jab.

“There’s no way you can dress up that record, even with a lot of lipstick,” he said. Later in the day, Obama used a variation of the lipstick line, though he was clearly talking about the McCain-Palin reform rhetoric. "You can put lipstick on a pig," he said. "It's still a pig."
