"The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" Opens Friday

[THE MOVIE - THE MUMMY]
Malaysian actress Michelle Yoeh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies)

Arriving in theaters on Friday seven years after the last installment, "The Mummy Returns" The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor will mesmerize you. The China setting -- both ancient and 1946 -- is expected to prove beneficial thanks to the publicity generated by the Summer Olympics, and the presence of Asian superstars Jet Li and Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh certainly won't hurt. The Asian superstars will outshine the entire movie just by their heroic presence, maturity and elegance.

Strangely enough, in this installment there isn't a mummy in sight. Instead, intrepid adventurers Rick (Fraser) and wife Evelyn (Maria Bello, replacing Rachel Weisz, whose absence might be explained by her winning an Oscar since the last one) are battling a massive army of terra cotta soldiers led by the reanimated evil Dragon Emperor (a wasted Li), who was cursed into suspended animation centuries ago by a beautiful sorceress (a similarly wasted Yeoh) whom he made the mistake of trying to kill.

Local film critics can say what they want or like about this movie. This is way better than Wall-E, Mama Mia, Wanted, and the others that have been given better scores. The "failure" they were talking about in their reviews is definitely not Asian superstars - Michelle Yeoh, Isabella Leong, Jet Li and the terracotta soldiers - but the Hollywood director, Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello because their parts are the weaker ones.
