This is sad but true. America (and of course the LGBT community) is awash in antidepressants. Literally so, it was reported recently. The AP reported recently that the drinking water of at least 41 million Americans is comtaminated with at times voluminous cocktails of prescription drugs. Many of these comtaminants are pyschiatric drugs. In Philly, for example, a glass of tap water brings along with it trace elements of up to 56 pharmaceuticals and byproducts, including Prozac, Valium and Risperdal -- a drug primarily used to treat schizophrenia.
Also, according to the AP report, in March this year, IMS Health, the leading provider of prescription drug utilization figures, reported that last year a remarkable 233 million prescriptions for antidepressants were written for Americans, more than for any other class of medication. No wonder the drugs are ending up in the water. Also according to some studies this year, million of people are taking antidepressants. Individuals are given multiple prescriptions and likely not always filling them. But it does mean that tens of millions amongst us (and queers) are drugged. Drug companies love to drug us eventho we were just down and out for a few days! They say anxiety or depression is not good, go take some Ativan and you'll be ok! Enough!
