Shame on teachers/parents/orgs who refuse to allow elementary and middle schools to screen "It's Elementary" video

As someone said not long ago, religion does great things for good people, but is used for terrible things by bad people. And it is obvious that this nation has more then its share of bad people, who make a complete mockery of the meaning of Jesus' life on earth and the Bible, both of which are a call for social justice for all of those 'made in His Image'.

Also, shame, shame, shame on the school boards, parents, teachers, leaders of organizations for not allowing "It's Elementary" video to be screened in Elementary and Middle Schools across America. Not allowing gay education in school as early as possible is only preventing more kids from discovering that gay kids are good kids also, but also putting the lie to certain churches homophobia that poisons our society.

There are some educators, parents and gay activists in this country who have agreed to let schools screen the gay education video and that kind of acceptance represents a growing willingness in schools across the country to talk about homosexuality with young students. Sadly such initiatives remain contentious, as exemplified a few years ago by public debate over the Peabody Elementary School’s decision to host a photo exhibition “Love Makes A Family”.

Parents across this country continue to be divided. Some have said in the past that they do not believe such topics are appropriate for elementary school students. They said that teaching young students about other lifestyles is not elementary education.

Others have said eavesdropping on activities and discussions about gay issues in various elementary and middle school classrooms across the country can be a good thing. While this might seem like a fiery topic for a grade-school curriculum, the emerging theme is respect, tolerance, and acceptance rather than sexual orientation.

Is it amazing when you think about it … how educated and smart people can be blinded by one simple fact of life --- gay people exist. As far as we queers are concerned Beverly LaHaye, Chairman of Concerned Women For America who wrote to PBS TV station, Senator John W. Warner and Senator Charles Robb to help boycott the "It's Elementary" video, is one of the reasons for the extinction of the dinosaurs!

Coming Out should also be easy for all. It should be. And not end in death and sorrow. Ok, maybe still not so easy. But today's gay high schoolers are discovering that declaring their homosexuality - and doing it at younger and younger ages - brings little of the stigma and complications that earlier generations faced.
