Let's eat!

Let's eat!
This month we cook a lot of dishes from Singapore and Malaysia. Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are a melting pot bubbling over with tourists, inhabitants and expatriates from all parts of the world, and these people naturally have diverse eating habits. Through the ages, the Chinese, Malay, Indians and the foreigners (westerners) have cast their influence on Singapore's food recipes and there is no doubt that Singapore is a food lovers' paradise. We are bringing the fantastic Singapore/Malay dishes to you and our friends who will be couchsurfing with us...Cheers! Tiger & Marlon

New York Times going out of business?

Is the New York Times, not making enough money, going out of business? Is it's ad revenue already in the toilette?

Dole's ad is cheap and distasteful

Nothing gay about it but we are glad to know that Dem. Kay Hagan filed a lawsuit against Rep. Elizabeth Dole. Good for Hagan. Dole's ad is very very troubling. North Carolina voters should not accept that ad. The tagline at the end of the ad is troubling, quoting Kay Hagan (using other people's voice) as saying that there is no God. It is not only cheap but very distasteful...watch.

QueerGam:
We should not demonize other people because we believe in different party.

Obama: No family making less than $250k will see tax cut

Joe Biden brought it down to $150K recently.
Bill Richardson brought it down further to $120K today.

Obama: Economics 101

Dear Mr. Obama...at a time like this...

"I cannot possibly vote for you"
"I vote for less government"
"I vote for freedom"
"I vote for less taxes in every form"

QueerGasm:
We support both McCain and Obama. As far as we queers are concerned, none of them is gayer or queerer than the other. Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain do not support gay marriage. Right now, queers only care about jobs and the economy. We know both McCain and Obama each have "great" plans to improve the economy and the job market.

Ohio appreciates and relates to them...and not Rashid Khalidi.

Queers to McCain and Obama: Bring back the economic stability!

And give us our J.O.B.S back.

Americans only want that. Don't promise us anything more. Screw the change and the hope. That is too much. Just make it sucks less!

At this point we don't even care if it was "lack of space" or something else on the Obama plane for Obama to have kicked out three reporters from Washington Times, New York Post, and Dallas Daily (that have endorsed John McCain) off his plane. We don't even care if it was totally political. Obama Camp: "We've had to make hard and unpleasant decisions"

"They Can't Reproduce..."

Previously published on The Atlantic.com

"... so they have to recruit our kids." That's the message of Prop 8 supporters. And Schwarzenegger and Obama stay silent. I will remember that. The tide of hysteria and hatred that has swamped gay Californians and their families, funded largely by the Mormon church, and largely ignored by the Obama campaign, is a very hard tide to resist. But we have and we will overcome it. If you live in California and want to protect civil rights, please call one person you know this weekend and ask them to vote No on 8. And if you live elsewhere and know someone in California, please do the same. Know hope. Our families can withstand the attack. And they will endure regardless of what the Christianist right can throw at us.

Obama buys 30-min informercial tonight on primetime news channels

To his supporters, the liberals on the extreme left like Rachel Maddow, Stephanie Miller and Roland Martin, Matt Damon, and Joy Behar, that was great. But to his non-supporters, that was horrible. Obama didn't say anything new -- he wasted your money.

To the undecided voters, it was showy and a waste of their money. They are wondering tonight, more than ever before, if Obama was running away from the real questions.

Obama splurged $600 million of your money on the informercials tonight and on liberal media that is biased and blatantly one sided (other than Fox News). He could have given that money back to you (yes, your money -- the money you have kindly donated to finance his campaign) after the election. He sounded really bad and desperate to win the election. He looked unpresidential and unpatriotic tonight -- buying the election, feeding the media that is siding him instead of playing fair and just, focusing on Country First. Undecided voters hate that kind of attitude.

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin challenged the LA Times to reveal the tape of Obama palling around with three, not one but three, former terrorists -- Ayers, Bernadine, Khalidi -- at a dinner in 2003. We know these guys said something shitty about Israel and America for supporting Israel. What Sarah Palin wants to know is Obama's reactions to all the words used (and a poem recited) against America at the dinner that night. LA Times refused to release the video tonight.

Sarah Palin slams LA Times, challenges the paper to release the tape of Obama palling around with former terrorists

LA Times: "We are protecting our sources"
Sarah Palin: "LA Times is protecting Obama"

The newspaper made a deal with the source. And America must respect that. But LA Times should also respect America. To LA Times, "Country First" is not important. "Rashid Khalidi First" is more important! It is not only the most un-American thing to do, it is disrespectful to the American people. LA Times, NY Times and CNN, wrong for Election 08.

Obama - a gaffe machine:
According to Michelle Malkin today, perhaps the most seriously troubling set of gaffes of them all, Obama told a Portland crowd over the weekend that Iran doesn’t “pose a serious threat to us” – cluelessly arguing that “tiny countries” with small defense budgets can’t do us harm – and then promptly flip-flopped the next day, claiming, “I’ve made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave.”

Barack Obama–promoted by the Left and the media as an all-knowing, articulate, transcendent Messiah–is a walking, talking gaffe machine.

How many more passes does he get? How many more can we afford? QueerGam supports both McCain and Obama. We are against liberal media on the etxtreme left like LA Times, New York Times, Rachel Maddow, Stephanie Miller, Fox News' Colm Joy Behar, Bill Maher, CNN's Roland Martin, Paul Bergala, Jeff Toobin, Middletown Mike, Gloria Borger, Campbell Brown, Anderson Cooper (yes, lately Cooper has been very unfair and biased against McCain-Palin)

McCain calls on LA Times to release 2003 Khalidi video. LA Times, be politically correct. Release the tape.

Controversies continue...I got the impression that the reporter who wrote the story in April, wrote it based on what he saw on the tape. I am skeptical that they are telling the truth. But the tape exists. Khalidi was the spokesman for Yasser Arafat! By the way, Bernadine, Ayers and Khalidi were all at those dinners.

LA Times knows how to handle and protect its sources. LA Times knows what to do, knows what is right and what is wrong, if it wants to. If it was McCain, LA Times will reveal the tape. But LA Times is covering for Obama. According to Fox News, rewards are offered for the tape!

LA Times equals Rashid Khalidi. Why did you write the story in April if it was not important? Why did your "source" give it to you in the first place?

We are waiting for you to release the tape, LA Times! If it was not important, according to you, reveal what is on the tape! American people need to see it. American people deserve to know who is Rashid Khalidi? And why Obama was so close to him?

We respect you protecting your "source" but you should also focusing on Country First. If, in your heart, you know it is Country First, you should release the tape. It is very un-American of you not to release the tape and Barack Obama's motivation and his asssociation with Rashid Khalidi. It is not an issue of politics but "journalistic" you say? Who are you kidding LA Times? What if it was John McCain palling around with PLO terrorist spokesman, or the guys who blow up our buildings? Why did you feature the storyt in LA Times in April? LA Times, free that f**king tape! We demand to know who is this college professor, Rashid Khalidi. And who the hell he is to someone who could be the next president of the United States of America.

Obama is lying about his association with Bill Ayers, Rev Wright, ACORN, telling Americans something and NAFTA something else (according to Hillary Clinton) and now this Rashid Khalidi guy.

How are Diana's boys doing these days?

The boys are doing just fine, turning to men. Great looking British royalty. They are Diana's greatest angels. Prince Harry, left, and Prince William, arrive for the premier of the new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace yesterday in London, UK. Diana must be smiling proudly in heaven.

Constructional arts my foot! Can you imagine the outrage if this was Barack Obama?

Effigy of Palin hanging by a noose is Halloween fun, owner says.
Where is CNN? Can you imagine the outrage if that was a black male mannequin that resembled Barack Obama? Lynching comes to mind. If they really wanted to get a belly laugh they could have posed her being gang raped. I am sure the liberal media on the extreme left will think that idea was pretty humorous since this is Halloween month. I am sure Biden would have gone mad and had a heart attack if it was a mannequin that looked like him hanging by a noose. Can someone hang Obama's mannequin by a noose? And see if it is funny or not..and see what will happen!

Is CNN running for the White House? Say No to CNN. Wrong for Election 08. Below Sarah Palin's brother Chuck Heath talks about his precious sis...

Switch to Fox News. Fox News provides fairer and balanced coverage on Election 08. CNN is biased against McCain-Palin. It is as if CNN is running for the White House. CNN, wrong for Election 08.

Watch Chuck Heath Jr, Sarah Palin's brother paying tribute to Alaska and his sister.
"I want to stand up for her, like any big brother would do. All the negative media is affecting me. I have no doubt that she'll do a great job. She is much tougher than people think and smarter than people think".

Thank you Let Freedom Ring, for your advertisement.

Both liberal and conservative Americans appreciate your TV ad. Thank you Let Freedom Ring.

We maybe heading for a complete liberal takeover with the most liberal president with the most liberal agenda.

Yep, there are dangers of Democrats controlling all the arms of government, the coveted trifecta of the House, Senate, and presidency. Think about it. No matter who will win this election, we all must support our new president. However, if Obama is so blessed to be given the honor to serve this country as president, America -- with democrats having absolute control in Congress, House and the White House -- will be like North Korea. 76% of Americans prefer a balanced government.

To the undecided voters: Country First.

CNN continues to be biased against McCain-Palin ticket...

To the undecided voters: Country First. Whether it is Obama or McCain you are thinking of voting for. Remember, Country First.

Take a third look at Sarah Palin: A woman who brings experience, maturity and elegance to a very demanding role in Washington.

To CNN: Success without honor, is like an unseasoned food...it fills you up but taste no good. Everywhere, CNN continues to use "Palin A Drag On McCain" at the bottom of the TV screen, continuing to bastardize Sarah Palin. It is as if they are the ones running for the White House. At Atlanta Airport, where CNN is inescapable, and airports across the country, CNN is being biased. CNN is wrong for Election 08.

For a number of weeks now, conservative Beltway insiders Kathleen Parker and Peggy Noonan, among others including SNL, have bastardized Sarah Palin

SNL, CNN (yes CNN -- the "most trusted name in news" with the "best political minds" -- and irresponsible political commentators who are desperate to elect Obama are wrong for Election 08. Sarah Palin has brought out something in them that rivals the ‘80s sitcom Full House when it comes to the shudder factor.

Parker started her ball rolling with a piece called “The Palin Problem” at the end of September. Since then, nearly all of her weekly columns have bastardized Palin in some form or other. Her most recent offering, “Maverick’s Tragic Flaw,” suggests that John McCain didn’t choose Palin for her accomplishments in the executive and energy sectors, temperament, and political promise, but because he was smitten.

Obama or Biden would not have survived intense and vicious media bias in this election. CNN, wrong for Election 08.

Responsible editors would be foolish not to ask themselves the bias question, especially in the closing days of an election.

Liberal editors and political commentators and analysts on the extreme left should ask this question: "What are we f***king doing to Sarah Palin?"

Media bias and CNN have stooped to an all-time low, damaging Palin and McCain. CNN and their commentators had the chance to be balanced...

...but they blew it and continue to destroy Sarah Palin. Jack Cafferty and the others are unstoppable. CNN's bias will probably get worse as election day nears. The commentators are awfully unfair on McCain. There may be some legitimacy to the claim of press bias.

Meanwhile, Obama is getting the kid-glove treatment. It is obvious.

The Project for Excellence in Journalism’s researchers found that John McCain, over the six weeks since the Republican convention, got four times as many negative stories as positive ones. The study found six out of 10 McCain stories were negative. What’s more, Obama had more than twice as many positive stories (36 percent) as McCain — and just half the percentage of negative (29 percent). You call that balanced?

CNN continues to bastardize Sarah Palin.

The media is obssessed once again with Sarah Palin. The latest example, Palin defended herself with those expensive designer clothes. The shootout between Palin's people and McCain's people have stunned political veterans. The criticism of Palin's clothes is demeaning to females. She is a masterful sense of political stance. She has good people within the party who support her. She is absolutely right for 2012. The liberal media on the extreme left is deliberately focusing so much attention on Palin and the GOP tension in their desperate attemp to elect Obama. The snifing on the republican side continues and CNN plays a big role in damaging Palin and exposing her dirty linen. CNN is not willing to move on to new narrative. It is biased against Palin. CNN is wrong for Election 08. Wrong for American homes.

Lance!!! What a jive!

Lance Bass nailed the jive tonight. Somewhere, Len Goodman must be smiling approvingly. Way to go Lacey. You go girls!

And the Jive score: 9-9-9

There are dangers of Democrats controlling all the arms of government, the coveted trifecta of the House, Senate, and presidency.

Again, to many of you, that is great. Also, to many of you, that is horrible. Both democrats and republicans (and those lingering in the middle) will suffer in the next eight years if Obama was elected and Democrats took over the congress. America will be like North Korea, Pakistan, and China.

Today, in Ohio, John McCain reminded voters and the American people of the GOP’s economic brand after a month of unprecedented government intervention in the financial markets.

John McCain in Ohio today:
"This election comes down to how you want your hard-earned money spent,” McCain said to a small audience at the Renaissance hotel in downtown Cleveland. "Do you want to keep it and invest it in your future, or have it taken by the most liberal person to ever run for the Presidency, and the Democratic leaders who have been running Congress for the past two years — Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid?”

Gay marriage is on the line. Vote No on 8 this week

Brothers & Sisters brought home the message again last night.

Scotty's parents put their religious beliefs over their son's happiness. Say No to 8.

Success kills. Your loss is too painful to talk about, Jennifer.

Our hearts are with you Jennifer. Queers love you.
Former American Idol's finalist, John Peter Lewis (right), who became close pals with Hudson during her time on the hit show, is devastated about the slayings, because the star had just started to live out her fantasies.

John Peter Lewis
"She was living her dream. For her to have gone on (from Idol) to be in so many wonderful movies and to have gotten an Oscar and to have a strong record out, and she recently got engaged - she had the whole world before her... everything was fine."

Jennifer Hudson, who won an Academy Award in 2007 for her role in "Dreamgirls," was in Chicago during the weekend. The medical examiner's office confirmed Hudson, 27, identified the bodies of her mother, Darnell Donerson, 57, and 29-year-old brother, Jason Hudson. The deaths were ruled homicides. Her nephew's body was also found in an SUV today. Julian King was 7 and the son of Julia Hudson, Jen's sister.

Palin: "Those clothes, they are not my property"

"This whole thing with the wardrobe, you know I have tried to just ignore it because it is so ridiculous, but I am glad now that Elisabeth brought it up, cause it gives me an opportunity without the filter of the media to get to tell you the whole clothes thing," she said.

"Those clothes, they are not my property. Just like the lighting and the staging and everything else that the RNC purchased, I'm not taking them with me. I am back to wearing my own clothes from my favorite consignment shop in Anchorage, Alaska. You'd think — not that I would even have to address the issue because, as Elisabeth is suggesting, the double standard here it's — gosh, we don't even want to waste our time."

Palin, however, forged on.

"I am glad, though, that she brought up accessories also. Let me tell you a little bit about a couple of accessories, didn't think that we would be talking about it, but my earrings — I see a Native Americans for Palin poster," she said. "These are beaded earrings from Todd's mom who is a Yupik Eskimo up in Alaska, Native American, Native Alaskan.

Elite liberal media on the extreme left is desperate to elect Obama.

Including CNN -- the most trusted name in news with "the best political minds" in the business. We certainly don't think so. CNN's leading men and women and their everyday guests (mainly Obama diehard supporters) are wrong for Election 08.

We maybe heading for a complete liberal takeover with the most liberal president with the most liberal agenda.

Ambrose Aban:
That would be great for many of you. Also, for many of you, that would be horrible.

Phil Spencer:
Here's why millions will walk inside the voting booths and not elect Obama as the next president of this country. More and more self-proclaimed Obama supporters are just now realizing that they are not ready to elect Obama. They don't know him that well. Yes, I do think CNN is biased against Sarah Palin.

Chris Goodridge:
They would not vote for him blindly or because he can talk or deliver a speech better than McCain. There is also a media biased against McCain-Palin ticket -- Palin is still being bastardized by the cast of SNL every weekend and being hammered by CNN 24/7, calling her a "drag on McCain". It is obvious -- CNN is wrong for this election.

Ambrose Aban:
I agree. With all that is happening, it has to be a catwalk for the Obama-Biden ticket. But, wait! The liberal media has to work very very very hard to further destroy Sarah Palin because the more they ruin her reputation, the more people will believe them.

Jefferey Johnson:
Fortunately for many of you McCain-Palin followers, you don't absorb everything CNN says.

Chris Goodridge:
Obama, if elected, will be the most liberal president. To some of you, that is great. To others, that is horrible. Obama will have an ultra liberal world view. Is he good for the country and the world?

Jefferey Johnson:
Eventually, the real winner in this election: Sarah Palin, despite very very intense, vicious, unthinkable, and unstoppable elite liberal media attacks 24/7.

Phil Spencer:
We don't think Obama and Biden can handle that.

Ambrose Aban:
Don't think so too. I don't think anyone else is capable of handling that.

Gay marriage backers in California regains their lead against Prop 8 supporters

After several weeks of trailing in the polls and at a financial disadvantage, gay marriage backers in California appear to have regained their lead against Proposition 8 supporters – the ballot initiative that seeks to forbid gay marriage in the state once more.

A new poll released Wednesday by the Public Policy Institute of California reports that 52% of likely voters surveyed opposed Proposition 8 while 44% supported it. But the San Francisco-based institute found a higher percentage of voters opposed to banning gay marriage in September, when 55% of responders said they opposed the measure and 41% favored it.

The new poll was welcome news for gay marriage backers who had been stunned by back-to-back weekly polls showing the gay marriage ban winning – if only by a thin margin. The latest Oct. 17 CBS/SurveyUSA poll showed a majority of voters in favor of the measure 48% to 45%.

If you named your child Fannie Mae, I'll stab you! CNN, wrong for this election

They put a gun on your heart. Money or die. Now the $700 billion bailout is gone. What are they up to now? Forcing us to have socialism for breakfast?

Meanwhile, CNN continues to damage Sarah Palin, by continuing to say she is a drag on McCain...over and over again, 24-hour of nonstop Palin-bashing as her haters like liberals on the extreme left such as Joy Behar, Stephanie Miller, Rachel Maddow, all the CNN's political analysts including Paul Bergala, Jefferey Toobin, Bill Maher (yes he is a liberal on the extreme left, trust me), Roland S. Martin are imploding. This is not the way to elect a president! No matter how stupid or bad John McCain and Sarah Palin are as human beings. CNN is so desperate to elect Obama as president. They look cheap and dirty. Suddenly we hate to watch them. We are so tired of CNN's unfair coverage on Sarah Palin. And just like that we switch to the more professional (and cuter) guys on Fox News.

QueerGam:
We support both McCain-Palin and Obama-Biden tickets. We want them to improve the issue #1. We are not interested in George Bush and the last eight years, and neither should you. We are not a bunch of liberal bloggers on the extreme left. We are here to give you something to talk about -- to tell you who are being biased and who are abusing their power as journalists. In this general election, CNN is wrong for America. It is unfair and wrong.

Prop 8 is ugly. Vote NO on 8

An unfinished and yet-to-be-titled first novel by Ambrose Aban...why Prop 8 must be defeated this week...for all gay-kind.

For Norman Ibrahim, a young Malaysian-New Yorker, life takes a
sudden drastic turn when he comes home and finds himself engaged to a girl of his mom’s dream. How will Norman survive in this unfair arrangement and stupid tradition? How will he tell his boyfriend of four years, who he left behind in New York? For Norman, this is just the beginning of a life as a married man. This novel is a side order of fate, a riveting story about the true power of love and friendships, family ties and conflicting cultures, the basic dynamics of human selfishness and also about all the many ways the truth can really set you free.
-- Ambrose Aban

For: my loved ones in Malaysia, California, and New York, Mom, Dad, Flave, Jacque

Especially for Boo Boo in heaven.

"What the eye is in the body, reason is in the soul"

From the first chapter:

“Abang Norman! Abang Norman!, you’re home! I miss you Abang! We’ve been waiting for for you to come home for so long, and mother had gone ahead and arranged for you to get married. Isn’t that exciting?” Norman’s little sister Suriati said excitedly as she jumped into Norman’s arms, kissing him excitedly on both cheeks, while gripping him tightly in a bear hug. Meanwhile, Norman’s older brother, Eddie, looked at him intently with the same self-satisfied smug expressions plastered on his face. Suriati was only 10 when he left four years ago.

“Yeah, sure! She wish! What?!” Shock was the only way to describe Norman’s reaction. “Ger married! What? Why? With who? Is he cute?” He just only realized he is so gay and so happy to be gay in a foreign land. But this is home. This is where the reality sets in -- where being gay is wrong, not right.

His voice seemed to fail him, and his breathing was uncomfortable.

“Mak arranged my wedding?” he said, struggling to speak. “How come? With who? Why?” he spluttered.

His mother’s embrace suddenly felt claustrophobic, as if she was trying to take away his freedom, and he pushed her clinging arms away. Maybe it was all a joke. They liked sick jokes in the Ibrahim’s family

“Yes, aren’t you happy? Everything has been arranged carefully. She is a really nice and educated kampung girl, Ida.” his brother Eddie exclaimed. “You’ve come back now, with a law degree some more, what else is there to stop us from finding you a perfect wife?” his mother said, adding “you’ll be too busy looking for the right firm in KL to even think about seeing any of the eligible girls that we want to introduce you to, so we thought we’d pick a perfect one for you.”

“Just imagine if we didn’t do this for you…all the virgin ones and the good, educated ones will be gone, and you’d have ended up left on the shelf, alone without any children, or have to marry a dara tua or even worse a janda tua! If we had not done this, you might, like that boy Man, died without giving his parents any grandchildren,” Eddie beamed, showing his pearly white teeth and feeling proud that he had gone beyond his brotherly duty and done him such a huge favor.

Somehow, he managed to ignore or misunderstand the stricken look on Norman’s face.

“We’ve even set the date for your wedding,” his mother added, delighting in the look of disbelief on Norman’s face.

“You’ve set a date for my wedding without even asking me? You are all joking right. Norman asked, trying not to sound too distressed and nauseated.

The thing he had dreaded most has finally arrived, right here, and was happening so suddenly, and he was living his nightmare. His worst nightmare.

“You are getting married in two weeks time,” Eddie said. He seemed to enjoy the anguish he was causing Norman. It was as if he still resented the fact that Norman had been born and taken away his position as the only cherished boy in the family.

“Two weeks?” Norman said, his mind reeling in pain. “It’s too soon,” he thought. He could feel a shadow over his head and a suffocating feeling envelope him.

“We’ve very little time to arrange everything, but we’ll manage it. Mak has lots of contacts,” Suria said grinning at Norman’s horrified expression, somehow still mistaking it for something else. “I have a photograph of your fiancée here somewhere. You must want to see what she looks like.”

She rummaged in the large multicolored Chloe handbag Norman bought for her two years ago from an Indian store on 27th and Broadway that she always carried with her and carefully pulled out a small silver picture frame, which she placed gently in Norman’s lap. “Here, don’t say we don’t do anything for you. Her name is Idawati. Isn’t she pretty? Mak thinks Ida is beautiful,” she said, referring to their mother, who was now sitting happily next to Norman.

Norman still could not believe that his family was doing this to him. How could they find a girl, fix a date, and not even mention it to him? “We were afraid you couldn’t concentrate on your finals,” Eddie explained. Why hadn’t he suspected that this plan was being hatched? They had been so nice to him lately, and even Eddie had attempted to be pleasant. In hindsight, Norman realized that he should have made some plans for this very moment, but he had never foreseen that he would be confronted by a marriage proposal this way.

“Ahhh Idawati, she is so fair and soft, so lovely and looks so delicate. She is only 18 years old, only five years younger than you,” his mother said.

“Eighteen is ridiculous to begin with, hardly an age to get married, Mak!” Norman said, unable to show his anger to his mother. He still felt dumbstruck and unsure of how to respond. He could not bring himself to look at the photo, knowing that in doing so, it would make the absurdity of hi situation all too real.

“Your father was ten years older than me when he married me. I was fourteen. We were so in love. We had never met before the wedding day. We had your brother Eddie a year after we got married,” Norman’s mother said proudly.

There was no more avoiding it. It was really happening. Maybe he would feel differently if he saw her face. Norman looked at the photo frame lying in his lap and tried to ignore his mother reminiscing about his late father. She had a habit of doing this sometimes, usually as a ploy to distract from what was really going on.

The photo frame held a color studio portrait of a young girl dressed in her baju kurung. It was purple and embroidered at the collar with small swirling patterns, and her head was covered in tudung. “She looks like a penguin,” Norman thought. The girl was smiling almost shyly into the camera. She had the most striking and beautiful brown eyes that were accentuated by a line of dark Maybeline liner along her eyelids. She wore some red lipstick, and at the side of her mouth, she had created a Cindy Crawford’s signature mole to use as a beauty spot. Norman noticed that on her feet she was wearing a high heel shoes. And looked quite the modern Malay girl.

“I am from a different generation, Mak. My generation makes its own choices. I will not get married to a woman I do not know or do not love. I am not getting married. Please apologize to Ida’s family and tell them you were wrong and I was not ready and that I am seeing someone else in the States,” The words that Norman had been trying to say were finally out.

“What the hell are you talking about?” asked Eddie angrily, demanding an apology from Norman.

“On my wedding day I wore the most beautiful selendang with a wonderful keronsang to go with it. When your father saw me, he fell in love instantly,” Norman ’s mother interrupted, oblivious to Eddie’s threat and Norman ’s statement.

“She’s a virgin. Her parents said they guaranteed it. They just came out with it. Even Mak was embarrassed,” said Suria, adding Mak was going to ask anyway. I am sure they would have given us a certificate from the doctor if we’d asked for it.”

“I’d give her one.“ Eddie said whispering to Norman ’s ear, under his breath, making sure that only Norman heard. “She’d be begging me for more from my cut and thick you know what I mean....” Eddie glanced appreciatively at the picture frame and winked at Norman . “She wouldn’t have been a virgin for long if she’d met me first.”

“Stop, stop, stop.” Norman ’s words just came out. He didn’t know where he had managed to find the strength to verbalize his thoughts.

“How can you arrange my wedding without asking me whether or not I want to get married or can get married? We’ve never discussed it. None of you have ever mentioned it to me before.” He screamed, slamming the photo frame on the floor without shattering it.

“What are you doing?” Eddie yelled at Norman . “Do you know how hard it is for Mak to find her? You ungrateful son.”

“I am a free gay man in case you don’t know that yet. I am over eighteen and I don’t have to agree and I will disagree no matter what.” Norman said, almost screaming at Eddie and his mother.

“Who the hell do you think you are? We do not have to worry about how you feel. You marriage is arranged and there is nothing we can do about it. Mak and her family have set a date in two weeks time you will be married, happy and start to plan for your own family. What is wrong with that?” Eddie said, while catching his mother who was fainting.

“But I am not your property.” Yelled Norman. “Tell them it was a mistake and that I am not getting married to that young girl.”

“You are not different from me and Suriati, Norman.” Eddie said, his face darkening.

“You are not any different. You are educated, you lived in America and have American accent but you are still a Malay -- there is a Malay blood running in your vein. You are a Muslim, too. You might think you are gay but you’re a part of this family and will bloody well do as you’re told and not bring shame to this family by thinking you are gay and refusing to marry such ha nice girl from a nice family.” Shouted Eddie, pointing his finger dramatically at Mak.

“She deserves the rights to see her youngest son married, settled and happy.”

Mak sat on the metal chair at the arrivals lounge, fanning herself, clutching her gold necklace, sobbing, and shaking her head like as if she was in pain upon hearing Norman’s angry voice. Since her husband had died six years ago, she had stopped wearing the tudung. Her eyes were surrounded by wrinkles and now filled with tears seeing his son’s graduation cert and seeing him in good health and knowing that he was well. What else could a mother ask for? She has found him a perfect girl who had agreed without complain or question.

“Why is it so hard for Norman to agree.” She thought, still sobbing.

“It was Mak who gave up everything for us and took care of us. Don’t you think that you owe her something, at least this one?” Suriati said.

“Are you that ungrateful?” Eddie added.

“So why don’t you marry her Eddie since you want her so much?” Norman yelled back, adding “is it because you are afraid to fail another time with arranged marriage, huh?”

“I wanted my marriage to work Norman. God I tried and I have never let my family down especially Mak. I tried and gave it a shot.”

“Yeah, that’s right I forgot, you picked a Korean girl in Hells Kitchen and you didn’t come home the next evening, worrying me sick. Yeah it was a fuck of the century, remember Eddie? And why did you say? Because you had no feelings for your wife. She was just a wife, you married her just to please for Mak after Abah died. Well, brother I am not marrying anyone I don’t love or don’t know let alone a girl.” Norman yelled back.

“You listen to me you mother fucker. Don’t talk about my past if you cannot handle the truth.” Eddie warned.

“There’s no need for that brother,” Norman snapped back, adding “the truth is wild enough and many lives had been destroyed including your own so don’t force me into doing stupid things as you and Suriati have done.”

“The truth is wild enough…what do you know about the truth you mother fucking prick? Mak’s been hurt for far too long. She needs to see her favorite son Norman, the best in the family, get married in two weeks. You want to know what is the truth? The truth is you are an ungrateful son.” Eddie said, adding “You are nothing but just a mother fucking Malay boy who got his mind screwed up and his head corrupted by decadence western ways. I’ve lived overseas for many years too and had done everything that Mak and Abah told me not to and were afraid of. But did I become a stupid Mat Salleh (white man)? No! Know why? Because I am still a Muslim man and I have a responsibility to this family -- and that is to not bring shame by sucking white cocks and taking it in the ass!” And do you want to know what the truth should be Norman? Be a man, learn to fuck and get married and try to make it works since you are the better one!”

“I can do what you have done Eddie but I am not stupid. The difference between you and me is not that I am the better one, I am the responsible one. I do not want to destroy that young girl’s life by marrying her, cheating on her later on, living a lie and cheating the world around me. I know it was something you had to do for Mak after Abah passed away. You were in love with a white girl in Australia and you had to give up your love because you needed to be a man for the family. And don’t you dare bringing that up because God knows I tried to be the best brother and son in this family. I had just arrived and for God’s sake I just come home and I am not ready to get married to anyone. I am not even ready to look for a job for God’s sake.” Eddie said trying to remain calm and collected.

“Looked at what happened to you?” Norman said. “You were miserable. Why? You hated your wife. How could you force me to marry Ida? I’ll destroy her life like you have destroyed yours and your ex-wife. And now you want me to destroy my life knowing I am gay and I have a boyfriend back in NYC.” Norman shouted as he worked himself back into an angry state.

“I am telling you this, I don’t want to be forced to get married,” cried Norman despairingly, not wanting to go back over old ground with them again.

“I already have a boyfriend! And his name is Steve. And I love him very much. And he loves me”

“You …?” asked his mother, falling on the floor.

“See what have you done?” Suriati said, rushing to their mother.

“Yes we’ve heard that before, don’t think we are that stupid Norman.” Eddie said. “So what? You have a responsibility to this family and do not expect us to live in sin knowing you are leading a sinful life in the States.

“As the head of the family, I will make sure you marry Ida and have children and not being a concubine to white men. This is not what God had intended for you. This is not what Allah had planned for you. This is not what Abah and Mak had hoped for. When you were young, you were so eager to get married to Aishwarya Rai. You said she was the most beautiful woman in the world. You wanted a wife. It was only like yesterday. You have to pray and ask for God’s forgiveness. You are confused and you are unsure. It must not stop you from getting married” Eddie insisted.

“I was 12 fucking years old Eddie. I said many things I didn’t understand. You did too. I am 24 now and I am older, wiser, and smarter. I am a modern man and I do not have to stick to old tradition and promises. I know what I want now. And I don’t want to get married in two weeks and to a woman. I am so gay. And I am proud.” Norman explained.

“Yes you are proud. We are your family and we are ashamed of you. You were studying, stressed out and you thought you were gay. That was all to it. You were so overwhelmed with the bar exams and you are not wanting to marry a man. God made Adam and Eve and not Adam and Norman.” Eddie said

“Adam and Steve,” Suriati corrected her older brother angrily while wiping sweat from her mother’s pale face. “Whatsover!” said Eddie.

“Shut up!!!” Norman yelled at them angrily.

Norman ’s relationship with Eddie had never been that good in the last few years because Norman has been the family’s favorite son. He was his father’s boy and Eddie was just a good looking, insensitive playboy who knows that he is smart and that every single kampung girl would want to be his wife someday. Also, it did not help that Eddie has grown into a very successful businessman, very handsome, tall, dark, and masculine and had once modeled for Jaya Jusco, a hypermarket in Kuala Lumpur when he was finishing his political science degree at University Malaya. Eddie was and still is a heartbreaker whose heart had recently been broken by a Chinese girl name, Karen, who had refused to convert to Islam and marry a Muslim man like him. Eddie was devastated. He knew that Islam was never Karen’s thing.

“We are not going to shut up.” Suriati said. We are your family. We know what is good for you. Abang Eddie knows that marrying Ida is the ebst thing for the whole family. Think for yourself, be your own man Norman, for once and not depend on us to do things for you.” Suriati said.

“Think for myself, be my own man.” How can you say that when you’ve just forced me to marry someone I don’t know, never met and will never sleep with without asking me?”

“Stop being gay or thinking you are being gay Norman. That is not healthy. Gay is sinful in our religion. Forget about it. Get married and leave a life you have been leading in the past, stop drinking and smoking. Islam will forgive you” Suriati said.

Suriati is the only person in the family who is so good at religion but never say what she preaches. She had done so since she came back from Conventry University in England, having joined the Islamic Society while studying there. She never left the house without wearing her tudung, and every so often came out with a ruling decreed by the Islam Society. Most recently, she had banned everyone including Mak from watching The Tudors because the Islamic Society believed the King and his whores to be unislamic.

“Stop saying you are gay. You have always wanted to have a wife and children.

When you were younger, you told us you wanted to look good on your wedding day and sitting next to a beautiful girl and making babies. What is changed now? Gays cannot have children and can’t get married. Do you really think two men can make babies?” Your bum is for going to the toilet, not for making babies.” Explained Eddie sarcastically.

“It’s not natural. It is perverted, and you are not a pervert. For as long as I shall live, I will not let my younger brother to be fucked by a white men or any man. I will kill you and I will kill all the men. In Islam, you would be stoned for being gay, we live a sinful life too if we allow you to continue living a sinful life and letting men to fuck your ass. “Shrieked Eddie, this time raising his voice.

“Stop screaming at me, Eddie. I do not want to get married. I want to enjoy my stay, go to Cherating, enjoy the sun with my old friends, spend the Raya with you, and start planning for my return to New York to start a new life, find a job and live a normal life like normal people. I don’t want to get marry. Call it off. If you don’t, I will move back to the States the next available flight”

“You will get married and that is final.” Said Eddie, threateningly.

“There was shocked silence in the arrivals hall. Both Norman’s mother and sister looked stunned and even Eddie and wiped the inane smirk from his face.

“Call it off? We arranged it today. She belongs to our family. She is our property now. Do you care how we feel? We cannot cancel it. How do you think she will feel and her parents and relatives and the entire community will feel. Everyone knows about it already. You will get married and that is final.” Said Eddie, threateningly.

“I don’t give a fuck care how they feel. I do not know them. Do any of you know her favorite movies and music? How about how I feel? Do you care? How about Steve? Norman retorted angrily.

“Who the hell is Steve?” Suriati said.

“Yes, who the hell is he?” Eddie repeated her sister.

“Who the hell is Ida? Does she know I am gay? Does she know gays do not do women? Does she know that I will never touch her and make babies with her? Does she know I love men? Does she know who I am? ” Norman retorted back.

“She is a nice girl, you idiot.” Screamed Eddie.

“I don’t care! And I don’t want her. You want her, you marry her!” Norman screamed back at Eddie.

“How could you say that Norman? How could you be so cruel?” Suriati asked. How could you hurt Mak like that? If Abah is still alive he would slap you hard.”

“I don’t give a fucking damn. I want someone else in NYC. If you forced me I will tell Ida myself that I am a faggot and I am not into sleeping with women because I men only. I will make her run away or kill herself. And it will all be your fault.” Norman said, without thinking.

“We will want her in no time, you will love her in no time after you meet her,” his mother intervened. “Everything will be fine, now let’s get in the car, let’s go home…you are home now Norman, life will change for the better for you and for all of us. Ida is a really lovely girl. You will not love her now but I am sure overtime you will learn to love her gently and slowly but surely…let’s go home”

“Look at her picture. She loves you Norman.” Eddie said.

“Stop being so stupid and narrow minded Eddie. She does not love me, she does not know me. What are you all on?”

The house where Norman grew up still looked the same. The old Cempedak tree still there, protecting the family ground. Birds and other small little animals love it.

“This is home but why am I not feeling safe here? How could they do this to me?” And why are they so … Norman thought.

“Welcome home bro.” said Eddie, hugging him tightly. “Abah is watching us now, smiling and knowing you are getting married. Everything will be fine.”

“She knew she was going to marry you for a long time. Her family has been waiting for us to ask for her hand in marriage for a long time. All of us knew you would both end up together, but we were waiting for the right moment.” Mak explained calmly.

“Now that you are home, completed your education, earned your degree and not seeing anyone at home, it is the perfect time to present you to her family and present her to you,” Mak continued.

“I don’t care mother. You cannot run my life anymore. I am a big man now. I can make a decision. I have decided not to look for a job in Kayel, Mak. I have decided to migrate to NY next year, after Raya. I want to spend the rest of the Ramadan with you guys and visit Abah is grave and ask for his forgiveness that is all. Despite what you think about gay people, I am still your little brother and I love you all and I am a good Muslim boy, Abang Eddie!”

“All my friends have accepted me for who I am. Why can’t you do the same? I am gay and that is not a bad thing, it is a good thing for me. Maybe not so good, here in this country but in America it is ok to be whom you are inside and be happy and be proud. I know I cannot be gay here and that is why I have decided to migrate there – to be happy and successful gay lawyers working for organizations like the Lambda Legal Organization and others…”

“Are these friends from a Muslim family in Malaysia? No! I do not think so. What do you think Abah would say if he was alive?” Eddie said.

“Your Abah before he dies, asked me to make sure you marry Ida,” Mak said sadly, shaking her head, crying. “It is always his dream to see his favorite son marry a good woman someday”

“Never say never. You will not destroy this family and her life. As your older brother and as the head of this house I want you to just sit back relaxed and just marry this girl whom they’ve all saved the best for last.” Eddie said sarcastically, looking at Mak, feeling discriminated and unloved.

“What do think? You would think I would let you destroy my family by forcing us to accept you and your gay lifestyle. Who do you think you are? Why do you think I had to suffer to save the memory of Abah?” Eddie continued, sounding angrier than ever.

“I think you are crazy people. That’s what I think.” Norman said.

“You have always been my favorite boy, listen to your brother. Get married. You have always made me proud of everything you have done. Please do not let me down now. If you don’t get married I will kill myself. I will not be able to carry on anymore. The only thought that has kept me going since your Abah passed away is that you, Suriati and Eddie get married and have children.”

“I am not well anymore. I am always sick. My days are numbered and I am falling apart son. I want to see my grandchildren from you. I want to see them before I die. I am begging you. I’ll kiss your feet…if that is what you want.” His mother fell onto her knees.

“Please get up mother.” Norman and Eddie said at the same.

Eddie grabbed Norman neck and squeezed it hard until Norman could not breathe and coughed violently as their sister tried to separate them and their mother dropped on the floor.

“Please stop killing each other.” Her voice whimpered her breathing loud and horse between her words. “Please get married my son.” Her voice continue to whimper and gasp for breath pathetically. “I am dying now…please say you’ll marry Ida, please.”

“Say it you fucking shit.” Eddie screamed at Norman.

“Please mother, listen to me. I cannot deal with this. I want to stay with a dear friend for a few days until you all have calmed down. Please cancel the wedding. I don’t want to meet anyone.” Norman cried.

Norman broke lose from his brother arms, headed for the door, pulling his feet out of his mother’s grasp and trying to make a quick exit but Eddie stopped him at the door and punched his nose several times until he fell on the floor bleeding.

Their mother fell on the floor again…unconscious…dying.

“Say it you mother fucking bastard. Say you’ll marry Ida.” Eddie grabbed his collar and spit on his face and grabbed his cock and squeezed it hard until Norman begged him to stop…”Yes mother I will marry Ida.” He whispered as Eddie loosens himself.

Eddie hugged Norman and kissed him tenderly for their mother to see, caring like a loving brother. Norman pulled way from him, calling him a terrorist.

“If anything happens to my mother, I will kill you. Stop being an asshole and listen to us. Alternatively, I will break your legs and take away your passport. We’ve had an arranged marriage and so will you.” Eddie warned Norman.

“Look at what happened to both of you. She left you after two years. He left you after a year. They did not love you both. You did not love them. You were miserable. You were all miserable. I do not want to live like that. I don’t want to love like that!” Norman cried.

“Don’t talk to me about my miseries you queer fucker,” Eddie yelled.

He lunged at Norman again, grabbed him by his crotch again, and squeezed his testicles very hard again until Norman dropped on the floor. He let go and punched Norman on his face again. Norman’s mother, as if on cue, suddenly fell again, screaming in apparent agony. “the pain, the pain. I am going to die” she screech, clutching her chest.

“Mak!” Suriati screamed. “Are you ok?” she asked her mother who only moaned in response. Suriati and Eddie turned around to Norman and immediately found someone to blame.

“Look at what you’ve done, you bastard”. Eddie said. “Now sit down and listen. You will get married or I’ll do what a man’s got to do to protect his family.”

“You all remember that I will be dying inside on my wedding day.” Norman screamed dramatically, triggering a huge smile on his mother’s face.

The punch hit Norman’s chin making a crunching sound. He felt blood dripping from his nostrils and sat down on the floor crying in pain while his Mak asking him to marry her dream girl, Ida.

None of this was fair or expected on his first hour at home. He could not believe what was happening. It was as if the freedom that he had had while in NYC was slowly slipping away from his grasp…

Prop 8: Fact & Fiction

Vote No on Proposition 8.
Don’t be misled. Proposition 8 puts discrimination into our Constitution. It would inject government into private lives. It undermines equal protections under our laws.

Here’s what’s fiction and what’s fact:

Fiction: Prop 8 doesn’t discriminate against gays.
Fact: Prop 8 is simple: it eliminates the rights for same-sex couples to marry. Prop 8 would deny equal protections and write discrimination against one group of people—lesbian and gay people—into our state constitution.

Fiction: Teaching children about same-sex marriage will happen here unless we pass Prop 8.
Fact: Not one word in Prop 8 mentions education, and no child can be forced, against the will of their parents, to be taught anything about health and family issues at school. California law prohibits it, and the Yes on 8 campaign knows they are lying. Sacramento Superior Court Judge Timothy Frawley has already ruled that this claim by Prop 8 proponents is “false and misleading.” The Orange County Register, traditionally one of the most conservative newspapers in the state, says this claim is false. So do lawyers for the California Department of Education.

Fiction: Churches could lose their tax-exemption status.
Fact: Nothing in Prop 8 would force churches to do anything. In fact, the court decision regarding marriage specifically says “no religion will be required to change its religious policies or practices with regard to same-sex couples, and no religious officiant will be required to solemnize a marriage in contravention of his or her religious beliefs.”

Fiction: A Massachusetts case about a parent’s objection to the school curriculum will happen here.
Fact: Unlike Massachusetts, California gives parents an absolute right to remove their kids and opt-out of teaching on health and family instruction they don’t agree with. The opponents know that California law already covers this and Prop 8 won’t affect it, so they bring up an irrelevant case in Massachusetts.

Fiction: Four Activist Judges in San Francisco…
Fact: Prop 8 is not about courts and judges, it’s about eliminating a fundamental right. Judges didn’t grant the right, the constitution guarantees the right. Proponents of Prop 8 use an outdated and stale argument that judges aren’t supposed to protect rights and freedoms. This campaign is about whether Californians, right now, in 2008 are willing to amend the constitution for the sole purpose of eliminating a fundamental right for one group of citizens.

Fiction: People can be sued over personal beliefs.
Fact: California’s laws already prohibit discrimination against anyone based on race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. This has nothing to do with marriage.

Fiction: Pepperdine University supports the Yes on 8 campaign.
Fact: The university has publicly disassociated itself from Professor Richard Peterson of Pepperdine University, who is featured in the ad, and has asked to not be identified in the Yes on 8 advertisements.

Fiction: Unless Prop 8 passes, CA parents won’t have the right to object to what their children are taught in school.
Fact: California law clearly gives parents and guardians broad authority to remove their children from any health instruction if it conflicts with their religious beliefs or moral convictions.

Regardless of how you feel about the issue, we should not eliminate fundamental rights for ANY Californians. Please vote NO on Prop 8.

When my parents got married in 1956, it was an occasion for love, in the face of the consequences. As an interracial couple, my parents went into their relationship with caution. After courting for four years, they took a year apart to make sure they were making the right decision. Following their hearts, they got married in a small wedding with their friends and only half of their family. My mother’s Caucasian family was adamantly against their relationship. Rather than risking her family’s intervention, they got married without her family’s knowledge. After the wedding, she had her parent’s pastor inform them of the marriage. Shortly thereafter, she was disowned.

As late as 1967, it was still illegal for interracial marriages to take place in some US states. At that time, 70% of Americans remained opposed to interracial marriages. There were arguments like, “God created the continents to prevent races from intermarrying”. Scriptures (e.g., be ye not unequally yoked) were used to show the immorality of mixed marriages. Nevertheless, the US Supreme court ruled in Loving v. Virginia that laws prohibiting marriage between races were unconstitutional.

In many ways, my love life paralleled that of my mother. You see, I’m gay. When I came out it was to tears, anguish and anger. I felt horrible because of who I was and who I loved.

If being gay were a choice, I certainly would not have chosen that path. I can only wonder what my mother would have thought. But she passed away when I was nine.

Initially, after they were married, my parents were very happy. However, as time passed, the anguish that she caused her family ate away at her soul. She became depressed, and died because of complications with her anti-depressants.
Racism not only ruined my family, but also devastated my birth parents. By the time I was born, my Japanese American birthfather had enlisted in the army and my Caucasian birthmother was forced to place me up for adoption. There was no chance for their love to mature. Fortunately for me, there was a Eurasian family wanting a Eurasian child. Otherwise, who knows what my fate would have been.

When it came time for my partner and me to start our family, we chose to adopt. This seemed only natural as we were both adopted. We have been with our daughter since she was two-hours old. She is now ten. For her our getting legally married is important. She has yearned for this since she was five. For her, marriage provides legitimacy of our relationship and our family.

Parallel to the US Supreme Court in 1967, the California Supreme Court ruled that the State’s Constitution provides equal protection for gays to marry, in spite of a previous referendum defining marriage as only between a man and a woman. Vote NO on Proposition 8, for the sake of my family, my daughter, and others like us. By legitimizing gay marriage, we declare that our children are free to marry the person that they love.

Do not let the proponents of Proposition 8 sway you with their patronizing opinions. They say, “think about the children”. That was one of the same arguments used against interracial marriage. Amazingly, forty years later, we have a Presidential candidate who is the result of a mixed marriage.

Proponents use scripture to condemn homosexual acts, while choosing to reinterpret other aspects of the Moral Code in the Old Testament (e.g., forbidding remarriage, execution to adulterers, execution to couples having sex during a woman’s period). There are far more Old and New Testament commandments that limit women’s roles in the home, church and society, than there are scriptures that they interpret as condemning the homosexual (see www.soulforce.com). The United States is not governed by the Bible, our founders specifically created a separation between church and State. The Constitution was established as the standard of law, which provides equality for all Americans.

As Japanese Americans, whose parents were unfairly interned, while German Americans kept their freedom and property; as Asian Americans whose grand parents fell in love with Caucasians and had to drive to Washington State to get married; as Asian Americans whose great grandparents were denied the right to own land, and constantly being confronted with new laws designed to take away their business opportunities; I encourage you to look beyond any personal prejudice and consider what is right and fair under the law. Now is the time to make a stand for equality for all. Vote NO on Proposition 8.

APPLE GIVES $100K TO NO ON 8.

Thank you Apple!
Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.

Watch out for "Changeling", starring Angelina Jolie

Watch Angelina Jolie in Changeling -- the true story of a mother in the 1920s whose son was abducted, directed by Clint Eastwood. It looks and smells like Oscar.

12 days to No on Prop 8

12 days to go, and already the fight over the constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in California is the costliest campaign about a social issue in U.S. history. Spending by both sides has topped $50 million, and the figure is growing. Most of those dollars have poured in since May, when the California Supreme Court turned what had been a slow-moving ballot initiative into a white-hot controversy by issuing the most sweeping declaration of fundamental gay rights to be found in U.S. law. Not only must gays be allowed to marry, the Republican-dominated court said, but it also flatly outlawed nearly any kind of discrimination against them.

The ruling struck down a 2000 statewide vote that had made gay marriage illegal (but not unconstitutional), and touched off a backlash among California conservatives. They put more than a million signatures together to force a Nov. 4 vote that, if successful, would undo the high court's ruling on gay marriage and stop what has been a stampede by gay and lesbian couples to Golden State courthouses.

California's fight over the initiative to ban gay marriage (popularly called Prop. 8) has attracted its share of million-dollar donors. The big contributors in the fight to approve Prop. 8 include the Knights of Columbus ($1 million); the National Organization for Marriage ($500,000); Dr. John Templeton, the son of the philanthropist Sir John Templeton ($450,000); and Focus on the Family ($500,000). Fighting against approval of Prop. 8 are celebrities like Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw ($50,000 each), as well as former GOP U.S. Senate candidate Michael Huffington ($100,000); Robert Haas, chairman emeritus of Levi Straus ($200,000); and the California Teachers Union Issues PAC ($2 million). The media battle has been intense. Talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres (who had vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden on her show to oppose Prop. 8) has thrown $100,000 to buy TV time to fight the ban. Meanwhile, proponents of Prop. 8 — conservative groups and churches among them — have put up their own ads.

While California may be host to the most spectacular battle over marriage equality, it's anything but a new phenomenon. In the 10 years since reaction to gay-friendly court rulings sent Hawaiians to the polls to change the state constitution to forbid gay marriage, 29 other states have had similar votes. In what must be one of the most successful electoral runs in history, marriage traditionalists have won a remarkable 29 times out of 30 — and often by margins that political strategists regard as near mythical: 78% in Louisiana; 76% in Oklahoma; and four years ago, fully 86% in Mississippi. Two years ago, however, the winning streak stopped in John McCain's home state of Arizona, perhaps because conservatives had reached for too much, attempting to forbid both gay marriage and civil unions.

Californians who embraced the powerful language of the supreme court decision are hoping that the Arizona win signals a cresting of the electoral push back against gay-friendly court rulings. But it's still too early to tell. A string of opinion polls shows that Californians are ready to embrace gay marriage. Of seven bipartisan, statewide polls cited by the Initiative & Referendum Institute at the University of Southern California law school since May, only one gives the advantage to supporters of Prop. 8. But that poll, by SurveyUSA, also happens to be the most recent; released on Oct. 6, it shows the anti-gay-marriage campaign ahead 47% to 42%.

We wish Obama's grandma well.

We are happy to hear that Obama is on his way to visit his dying grandma in Hawaii. We respect that about a man who places his loved ones above Washington. We wish his grandma well.

CNN Political Analysts are NOT the best political minds around!! Who are you kidding? They are biased against Sarah Palin.

They were also biased against Hillary Rodham Clinton! CNN political analysts -- wrong for American homes.

They are constipated American bullshitters, beer-drinking, champagne-sipping lizards often seen in West Village trendy clubs in Manhattan and George Town cocktail parties in DC.

"No bias, no bull"? But inbalanced and unfair coverages! CNN, who are you kidding?

Campbell Brown can say all she wants about not being bias on CNN. It is not the scripts she is reading on the teleprompter. No bias, no bull? Cutting through the bull? Campbell Brown and other McCain-Palin haters inside CNN including Jack Cafferty, O'Brien (Solidad) Paul Bergala, Jefferey Toobin (legal analyst), Roland Martin and Gloria Borger -- wrong for CNN. Wrong for American homes.

But fortunately not all of them at CNN are McCain-Palin haters:
We enjoy and appreciate Anderson Cooper, Lou Dobbs, Wolf Blitzer, Candy Crowley, Suzanne Malveaux, Larry King, and John King for their balanced, fair and neutral coverages/sound bytes on CNN.

Arnold Schwarzeneger, we thank you for defending Sarah Palin last night on Campbell Brown. We were afraid that CNN might not use the entire interview and we expected CNN to only use the part where you said Sarah Palin "will get to be qualified/will get there"...we appreciate your explanation that it also took you sometimes "to get there" or get qualified as governor of California.

Palin's wardrobe is not the issue, she needs to look good...it is expected.

When it comes to women, we do expect them to look good especially someone like Sarah Palin. I've never seen Nancy Pelosi not looking good on TV, or Hillary Clinton, for that matter. They are always well groomed and looking the part, wearing expensive pantsuits, power jackets, power skirts, power heels and carrying super expensive totes. Sarah Palin is naturally beautiful and elegant. She is classy. And she is kind and in your face kinda girl. Her beauty lies deep inside her, from deep within. Her beauty shines through effectively. There is no amount of designer ties or shoes or very very expensive power suits and cuff links that can help Joe Biden to look good or better, and sound good or betetr on TV or on stage. Can you imagine how much it must have cost Obama and Biden to look the way they look? Look at their ties, shoes, jackets, suits, cuff links, belts, socks...etc.

Women voters must take a third look at Sarah Palin and see her upclose and personal -- we are sure there is a beautiful, smart, kind soul in Sarah Palin.

Sarah remains poised, professional, dignified in the face of intense, vicious, unfair and unthinkable media attacks. And way hotter than Tina Fey

And way brighter and smarter than Rachel Maddow and Stephanie Miller, her haters.
With less than two weeks away, women should take a third look at Sarah Palin -- Palin the woman, the mom, the reformer, the Washington outsider, the smart, kind hearted, loving wife, popular governor, calm and collected international figure who energizes her party and America.

The way they have been attacking and damaging Sarah Palin, this election should be a catwalk for Obama and Biden. But...eventually, liberal media on the extreme left will be Obama-Biden's downfall...Palin will prevail. Remember this? Tough times won't last, tough people do. Her haters are making her stronger with each passing day...

QueerGam's Top 10 McCain-Palin Haters -- members of the liberal media on the extreme left who are very desperate to elect Obama as president.

QueerGam's Top 10 McCain-Palin Haters List:

1) Rachel Maddow, TV Host (the worst)
2) Stephanie Miller, Radio Host
3) Jack Cafferty, CNN TV Host
4) Roland Martin, CNN Political Analyst
5) Paul Bergala, CNN Political Analyst
6) Matt Damon, Hollywood Actor
7) Joy Behar, The View TV Host
8) Bill Maher, Bill Maher TV Host
9) MIddletown Mike, CNN Political Analyst
10)Jeff Toobin, CNN Political Analyst

Elite media on the extreme left is so desperate to elect Obama as president and have gone all out to kill Sarah Palin. They all had many chances to be fair and balanced. This is insulting to America. And insulting to Americans. They have been very one sided, vicious, and totaly dishonest. No pretense, not a shred of nuetrality there, especially the coverages in the New York Times and on CNN. Totally one sided and totally biased coverages and portrayal of Sarah Palin since she burst into the national spotlight. What had happened to America's Mr. Fair and Mr. Balance in the media?

What SNL and Tina Fey (by the way Sarah is way hotter) have done to Sarah Palin's personal life is very damaging. It is slander and worthy of a lawsuit. The labor union and NYT are desperate to elect Obama. MSNBC and CNN have been one sided. They can do many things (if they want to) to right their wrong doings.

Why do they allow a small town black community organizer to grow into a statement? Why can't they do the same for Sarah Palin?
Reasons: They see her as a threat because of the impact she has on Americans and because of the way she carries herself with dignity and pride and because of the way she connects to middle America and the way she energizers the country. Obama and Hillary and all the democrat women out there should be very afraid.

Was CNN (on its latest Palin-bashing efforts) being dirty or incompetence?
FOX NEws Viewers: 92% says CNN is playing dirty and 8% say CNN is incompetence.

$700 Billion GONE! 750,000 jobs GONE!!! And you are questioning Sarah Palin's hairdo, jackets and makeup!!!

Let's set aside our political difference. Today you don't have a job, you can't spend money and you have the audacity to criticize Sarah Palin's hairdo and makeup. Let's stick to the real issues. We have a serious problem. We just lost the bailout money! Yes, the $700 billion is gone! Today! Yes, just like that! Global financial crisis is happening. We need different approaches to save us.

What has her looks to do with the real issues we are facing? Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama wear very expensive outfits! They all wear super expensive shoes, handbags, jewels, hairdos, etc. Shame on the media for only carrying Sarah Palin's story, calling her drag on McCain. It is a shame they (the media) never tell the people how expensive Biden's and Obama's designer ties, cuff links, shoes and suits are! Not to mention Democrat's hottest politician, John Edwards's $600 haircut!

But no, no, no... they are only focusing on Palin's looks and the cost of her looking good. Can you imagine how much it cost to treat, steam, blowdry, cut, color, recolor, style and set Hillary's hair before her public appearances? Very very expensive!

The media is still very biased against Sarah Palin. And that is why Obama-Biden should pay for the damage. Vote for McCain and Palin: they ready to manage this country than Obama and Biden. Biden, especially this weekend, is a different story not worth even mentioning. We are sure China will throw the first punch at Obama if he was elected president. Democrats made the biggest mistake in the history of this country. They picked Obama as presidential nominee. We would have died or killed for Hillary Rodham Clinton to be our president! The way they have been killing and bastardizing Sarah Palin, this election should have been a catwalk but it seems that Obama, Biden and all their supporters will have to run faster than the Olympic 100M's record to beat McCain-Palin next week.

Tight battle over Prop 8 highlights differences in geography, age, religion, race and ideology

Yes, same sex marriage question splits voters in a lot of ways, by party, by religion, by age, by region. The churches should know by now that the Prop 8 promotes and supports love and well being of gay people. Prop 8 doesn't support or promote hate. It is very important that we all say and vote "NO" on Proppsition 8 -- an unthinkable and ugly propositon that seeks to ban gay marriage in California.

Joe Biden, God bless his heart, will make the worst VP should he be so blessed to serve this country. Biden is wrong for America. His mouth is dirty.

QueerGam:
It is so frustrating. The media should repeat his words over and over again so that people know who and what this man is all about. The journalists and commentators should repeat his nasty remarks and comments as they would with Sarah Palin or John McCain. Jo Biden cannot be our VP. Ever! He is wrong for this country. He is wrong for Washington. He is wrong for international affairs. He is a loose cannon and that is dangerous. He is the reason why Obama will not be the next American president. People will vote for McCain inside the voting booth. People hate guys like Biden. Clearly.

The increasingly erratic, super-gaffetastic Joe Biden
By Michelle Malkin • October 22, 2008 08:32 AM

My syndicated column today takes you through a tour of all the latest Joe Biden gaffes that aren’t getting replayed endlessly on the nightly news and comedy shows. I said yesterday that the McCain camp ought to toss the “erratic” label right back in Joe Biden’s face and defuse that rhetorical bomb. Right on cue, Team Obama has released a new ad called…”Erratic.”

Ball’s in your court, McCain. Or will it be left to Sarah again to strike back?

The increasingly erratic, super-gaffetastic Joe Biden

If the prospect of Joe Biden sitting a heartbeat away from the presidency doesn’t give you palpitations, you are not paying attention.

Hysterical Sarah Palin-bashers on the unhinged left and elitist right have dominated campaign press coverage and pop culture. They’ve ridiculed her family, her appearance, and her speech patterns. They’ve derided her character, her parenting skills, her readiness, and her intellect.

Meanwhile, the increasingly erratic, super-gaffetastic Joe Biden gets a pass. What does the guy have to do to earn the relentless scrutiny and merciless mockery he deserves? Answer: Wear high heels, shoot caribou, and change the “D” next to his name to an “R.”

Team Obama is hammering John McCain as “erratic” in the closing days of the election campaign. There are now 615,000 Google hits and counting using the search terms “erratic McCain.” Last week, the New York Times devoted an entire article to the Obama-Biden line of attack, titled “In Friendly Region, Biden Cites McCain as Erratic.”

Who’s erratic? Throughout the primary and general election cycles, Biden has lurched from attacking Obama as not-ready-for-primetime (“The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training,” September 2007) to ready-to-lead (“Barack Obama is ready. This is his time,” August 2008) and back again. This week, Biden warned America that an Obama victory would invite a dangerous global showdown between tyrants and the naïf Obama. “Mark my words,” Biden said Sunday at a Democratic fund-raiser. “It will not be six months [after the inauguration] before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy.” In a follow-up appearance, he told followers to brace for the worst and “gird your loins.”

Out of Biden’s mouth, this is called candor. Out of anyone else’s mouth, it would be “fear-mongering,” “negative campaigning,” and a “distraction.”

Tooting his own horn while vandalizing his running mate’s, Biden bragged: “I’ve forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know.” Yeah. Colleagues like that guy who had a mere 143 days of Senate experience before launching his presidential bid and choosing you to shore up his meager credibility, Joe.

In fact, Biden has spent the entire campaign questioning his running mate’s judgment. Last month, he mused out loud: “Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more than I am to be vice president of the United States of America…She is easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America and quite frankly it might have been a better pick than me.” Biden assailed the campaign’s position on clean coal, openly criticized the campaign’s idiotic ad attacking John McCain for not using e-mail, and warned the pro-gun control Obama that “if he tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem.”

Dan Quayle will have “POTATOE” etched on his gravestone. But how many times have late-night comedians and cable shows replayed the video of senior statesman and six-term Sen. Biden’s own spelling mishap last week while attacking John McCain’s economic plan?

“Look, John’s last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S.”

No, Joe. “D’-O-H” is a three-letter-word.

Nightly news shows still haven’t tired of replaying Sarah Palin’s infamous interview with Katie Couric. But how many times have they replayed Joe Biden’s botched interview with Couric last month – in which he cluelessly claimed: “When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’”

Er, here’s what really happened: Roosevelt wasn’t president when the market crashed in 1929. As for appearing on TV, it was still in its infant stages and wasn’t available to the general public until at least ten years later.

During the lone VP debate earlier this month, the increasingly erratic, super-gaffetastic Joe Biden demonstrated more historical ignorance that Sarah Palin would never have been able to get away with: “Vice President Cheney’s been the most dangerous vice president we’ve had probably in American history,” Biden said. “He has the idea he doesn’t realize that Article I of the Constitution defines the role of the vice president of the United States, that’s the executive — he works in the executive branch. He should understand that. Everyone should understand that.”

Article 1 of the Constitution defines the role of the legislative branch, not the executive branch. You would think someone who has served 36 years in government – the same someone who is quick to remind others of his high IQ and longtime Senate Judiciary Committee chairmanship – would know better.

Joe Biden’s erratic and gaffe-tastic behavior is the least of America’s worries. He’s worse than a blunderbuss. He’s an incurable narcissist with chronic diarrhea of the mouth. He’s a phony and a pretender who fashions himself a foreign policy expert, constitutional scholar, and wordly wise man. He’s a man who can’t control his impulses.

And he could be a heartbeat away. Now, back to your regularly scheduled Palin-says-“You Betcha” skit.

Lance!!!! You can dance. Fall on your cute butt if you must but keep up the good work...Lacey, great choreography...you go girls!

Queers, please vote for Lance and Lacey -- Dancing With The Stars, Monday 8PT/7C

Maurice & Cheryl nailed the Salsa! Score: 9-9-9.

Maurice Greene and his professional partner, two-time champion, Cheryl Burke, nailing the Salsa last night, scoring high marks from the judges. Watch our precious Lance Bass and his pro partner, Lacey Schwimmer (watch them above) performing their West Coast Swing. Lance fell on his hot butt while attempting a Benji Schwimmer's (Lacey's brother) signature slide during the routine. But he is hot hot hot...

If Joe Biden is right, China will supply the first crisis to Obama if he was elected president.

First, Collin Powell endorsed Obama this past Sunday. And Obama thinks he is a great guy now. Up until Saturday, Powell was another Bush to Obama. Powell! This is the very man who played a very big role in America's decision to invade Iraq. Bush depended on him. Bush listened to him. Bush hung on to his every word more than the United Nations.

Why did Powell take his time to endorse Obama? Why didn't he show his excitement and say that Obama is the one from the very begining if he believed that Obama really is the one? Why now? Why two weeks before the general election? Obama thinks it is ok for Powell, Hillary, Biden and the others including Collin Powell to support the war but not John McCain. This is disturbing and confusing. And this is the reason why Americans will not elect Obama in November. Screw the polls. This is about race. This is about Obama's blackness.

And, since Joe Biden is asking for it, China will be the first country to supply the first crisis to Obama if he was elected president.

This is an issue on everyone's mind -- Powell's endorsement is about race. And Obama is the wrong candidate to be tested in this dangerous time. If it is true about what Joe Biden said this weekend that Obama’s total lack of foreign-policy experience will definitely provoke America’s enemies into creating an international crisis. This is not terrific if you asked me.

It is guaranteed that if elected, Obama will be tested by an international crisis within his first six months in power and he will need supporters to stand by him as he makes tough, and possibly unpopular, decisions.

Joe Biden said:
“Mark my words,” the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”

We can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate -- the Middle East and Russia as possibilities. And he’s gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you - not financially to help him - we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.

Of course, as we adults know, isn't this just an argument for electing someone with more experience? Why should we elect a man who will embolden our enemies and push us to the brink of disaster?

Even Biden himself seems convinced that electing John McCain will make our enemies abroad much less sanguine about provoking us — which is one of the best arguments yet heard for electing McCain.

Even worse, Biden admits that an Obama administration will likely fumble the ball. “It’s not going to be apparent that we’re right.”

Really? Why not? I’d say that Biden admits that Obama will deviate from long-held principles of American foreign policy and diplomacy, and expects to reap a whirlwind of disapproval because of that. Where will that be most likely to occur, given Obama’s previous political alliances with people like Rashid Khalidi?

Let’s not forget the example that Biden himself uses here. John Kennedy got tested because he met with Nikita Khrushchev with “no preconditions”. Kennedy acknowledged afterwards that it was an “unmitigated disaster“.

But the point is this: Obama is not ready. He is definitely not as ready as Hillary Clinton or Howard Dean or John McCain. And that is the reality. God bless his heart...but no amount of "blackness" in him and his eloquence can prepare him to be the next president of the United States. As Hillary, Bill, and the rest of the top Democratic Party leaders have all recently said, (and they were dead serious) especially Joe Biden, that Obama was NOT ready to be Commander-in-Chief. The worst --they have all closed their eyes on his lack of experience. They instead are now focusing on killing Sarah Palin and saying John McCain is the one not ready to be Commander-in-Chief because he picked Sarah Palin as his running mate. It is obvious Sarah Palin is a threat to the Democratic Party. She is smart, she is a reformer and she is an outsider. She has some serious executive experience. She is not perfect. Far from perfect. But who is?

Funny but who is to be blamed for this?

Brothers & Sisters

All Kevin (long nights), Saul and Sarah (currently unemployed) wanted to do was enjoy the SoCal sun- but Nora has her mind set on doing a garage sale. Justin complains that she's trying to get rid of all of William's things, but no one else is having any problems with the fact that Nora doesn't see the point in keeping the stuff of a man who cheated on her for 20plus years. Scotty is nowhere to be found in all this, because he is catering at a 'private event'. I'm not one of the people who think he needs to be in every episode, but on BROTHERS & SISTERS there is what I call 'the Julia threshold' - when Julia makes it into an episode, EVERY minor character should get a chance :-). Anyway, the best scene is between Kevin and Robert: Robert wants a GI Joe doll Kevin put up for sale and Kevin uses this for a broadside attack that he won't have HIS GI Joe fight in a pointless war. This altercation leads to only one logical conclusion, sort of: KEVIN should be ROBERT's new communications director. No no, you've read that right. Tommy and Sarah also reconcile. Definitely want to see more of Scotty and Rebecca and Justin.

Connecticut judges allow same-sex marriage

Yes, same-sex couples in Connecticut need not be satisfied with civil unions and may marry, the state Supreme Court of Connecticut ruled in a just-released decision.
Writing for the majority in the 4-3 decision, Justice Richard Palmer found:

We conclude that, in light of the history of pernicious discrimination faced by gay men and lesbians, and because the institution of marriage carries with it a status and significance that the newly created classification of civil unions does not embody, the segregation of heterosexual and homosexual couples into separate institutions constitutes a cognizable harm.

The case found in favour of eight same-sex couples who in 2004 were denied marriage licenses by officials in Madison, Connecticut. The couples sued, arguing the ban on same-sex marriage violates the state constitutional prohibition against sex discrimination (because a woman may not marry a woman, though a man may). They also argued the ban discriminates against gays, who are a separate class under state equal-protection law.

The defendants, who included the state public health commissioner and the Madison town clerk, argued the same-sex couples had suffered no harm because the state's civil union statute affords them all the rights and privileges of heterosexual married couples. Also, "The defendants contended that, in light of the universally understood definition of marriage as the union of a man
and a woman, the right that the plaintiffs were asserting, namely, the right to marry 'any person of one's choosing,' is not a fundamental right." BeOneCity.com

Lance!!!

Lance Bass fell on his butt but he is still one of the best tonight. We love you Lance! Hang on in there girls and win that ugly trophy for gay-kind! The judges tonight pointed their accusing fingers at Lacey for not teaching Lance the West Coast Swing properly and for not helping him shine since he is a great dancer. Carrie Ann thinks Lance can win the ugly trophy. You rock, Lacey!

Sarah Palin on SNL

Sarah Palin (the real one) did a guest stint on "Saturday Night Live" last night, showing up in two sketches including one with her SNL doppelganger Tina Fey.
